An interactive video fitness program for children which develops coordination. creativity, problem solving skills, musicality, and self-confidence.

This 25 minute video offers a balance between teaching children a basic dance vocabulary, including a warm-up routine, walking patterns, rhythm patterns, skipping, sliding, prancing and leaping: and interpretive movements to ideas such as falling snowflakes, moving in the spaces of "low. ""middle," and "high," and dancing with ribbon banners.

Creative movement is a synergistic blend of head and heart, thinking and action. It is a wonderful opportunity for children to expand their physical capabilities, sharpen their minds, and open their hearts to their own creative genius.

Carl Orff's explorations into the variety of rhythmic and timbre experience are known and used all over the world. Orff believed that any person could learn musicianship if he could first separate the musical elements of rhythm. melody, harmony. form and dynamics, and then deal with them. Through dance, these abstract musical elements become internalized and the child becomes intuitively more musical. It's all good fun that children should relish for its infectious gusto and ear-sharpening timbre quality.

REVIEWS

"This feature manages to be aesthetic and professional without being slick. Three to 10 year olds will be charmed by Carl Orff's music and will want to dance along with the cast of six young male and female dancers, Bright leotards flash against a black background, creating a kaleidoscope effect throughout the warm-ups and the simple. elegant choreography. The length of the film is perfect, and the care and effort that went into its production are obvious, as is the enjoyment of dancers and moderators alike. A little gem!"

Joan Logghe, Poetry Editor of Mothering Magazine (Excerpt from Summer'93 issue)

"As an educator and an administrator of a Montessori school, I found "Dance With Us" to be an excellent example of what can be done with children when the focus is on empowering the child. This video speaks to children in its free flow format and child narration. My children love it! Much research has been done on the value of movement in academic development. "Dance With Us" takes the elements of movement and breaks them down so each element can be learned and enjoyed. I feel the "Dance With Us" video to be an excellent learning tool and a work of art."

Christina Miller Owner/Director Millhopper Montessori School

"As a development psychologist, it is refreshing to see such a creative, child-oriented video. There is a nice balance between group synchrony and individual expression in the exercise/dance routines. It is a pleasure to recommend this video for other children and parents to enjoy."

Karen Bennett, Ph.D.
